On the Road Again...Hello Kentucky and Ohio!
Hi Family and Friends!
As we set out for another extended RV road trip, it was hard to leave our family again this year, but also a little easier in a way, being more familiar with how things will work at home and on the road. We learned a lot in 2020 about planning, the RV, and how to best fit in everything we wanted to do. We both enjoy basically the same things, but Craig's favorites are hiking, the local food and drink fare, and all the natural landforms. My favorites are the museums, historic towns and homes, gift shops, and an occasional fudge shop. However, no matter where we go, we seem to cover a lot of ground quickly; we have been on the road for about three weeks and have already well-covered all of our favorite things!
This trip has been enjoyable because we are traveling through places that we've never thought much about going to and didn't have an idea they'd be particularly spectacular. Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana—not places that immediately come to mind on the lists of riveting vacation spots—at least not until now. Nearly everywhere we've been, we say, "I'd live here!" We have been amazed at the lush greenery, the quaint, small towns, beautiful farms, charming homes, and large ranches and estates. There are hundreds of lovely towns and communities, each with its unique character and feel.
We spent our first night on the road in Corbin, Kentucky. Corbin is the home of some fantastic state park hiking trails and where Colonel Sanders started selling chicken out of a gas station before opening his first restaurant. Also, the world's most extensive known cave system (pictured above) is in Kentucky and protected as Mammoth Cave National Park. In Louisville, we lost a few dollars at the horse races at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby. We toured the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory and strolled around a most unusual cemetery where many wealthy and famous are buried. The Creation Museum in Petersburg was very elaborate and well done, and on the same day, we traveled to Williamstown to see the actual-size replica of Noah's Ark. (It's BIG!)
In Ohio, we found more cave segments and lovely waterfalls to explore at the state's most popular and beautiful park, Hocking Hills. In the Hocking Hills State Park, we had breakfast in a quaint 120+-year-old log cabin for Craig's birthday before heading to the Cleveland area. We fell in love with the elegant little town of Hudson, outside of Cleveland, with its stately old and new homes and perfectly detailed and manicured lawns. Once in Cleveland, we toured the Christmas Story House and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We also explored Ohio's only National Park, Cuyahoga Valley.
Next, we will travel to several places in Michigan in the Upper and Lower Peninsulas and include a visit to see Glenda's sister and niece in the Detroit area that we haven't seen in years. From there, we will head to Wisconsin and continue west in the next several weeks. 🤠 As always, we hope you enjoy the pictures and are reminded of somewhere you've enjoyed before, or learn a little about somewhere you may like to visit one day!
Much Love- Craig, Glenda, and Clay 🤸🏻♀️🤸🏻♂️🐕🦺
That’s all for now! Drop us a line and say hello or recommend a place we should visit while in the Midwest! We’d love to hear from you! 🧡
